Auburn University Hill Redesign: Biology + Geosciences Building

As Auburn University looks to expand campus south, the current site of the hill dormitories will soon become the location of a new College of Education building, College of Biology and Geosciences building, Faculty commons, and more. This site will be a key piece in connecting north campus to south campus. The urban plan explores combining both organic paths and a grid, both found in north campus planning. The organic path continues from the Duggar Concourse, connecting pedestrians to the existing Memory Garden; while the linear concourse continues from north campus’s art’s and architecture buildings, creating structure in the urban design.

Developing the College of Biology and Geosciences buildings further, they act as a major connecting piece to existing north campus. They interact directly with Samford Avenue and the new site proposal, framing both the structured grid and the new memory garden. They work to both continue the current language of Auburn University’s campus buildings and incorporate glazing throughout to connect to the surrounding environment. The glazing in the lab building is a key element in connecting to the existing Auburn University Memory Garden.
