Wood Comp

Generated by the surrounding trees, the pavilion’s form is a series of branching pathways that carefully frame the existing landscape with thin wooden planes. These walkways taper and expand, creating a feeling of compression and release, especially upon arrival to the grand natural courtyard and amphitheater space. The pattern of the decking encourages one to take different paths to discover all of the pavilion’s special destinations. Stacked wooden screens strategically block views of the ultimate gathering space, imbuing the visitor’s journey with a sense of mystery. By extruding elements of these screens, seating and storage are closely integrated into structure.
